We had one of those “What the Heck, Let’s Do It” days Saturday. At 2:00 in the afternoon, we decided to pack up the family and dogs, and head two hours north to spend some time with my husband’s family.
It was kind of crazy really. We were heading to a cabin to fish in cold, windy, 40° weather. We were going to drive a total of 4 hours for about 3 hours of visiting and an hour of fishing. But, what the heck? We left our house at 2:30 in the afternoon ready for an adventure.
We arrived just in time for dinner. Since you can’t not fish on Fishing Opener in Minnesota, my boys, husband and brothers-in-law took the pontoon out for a quick fishing adventure. The boys were cold but excited when they returned – one caught 14 fish, the other 16!
This crazy, “What the Heck” adventure will be one we will be talking about for years to come.
It isn’t the first time we’ve done this. One Friday morning a few years ago, we woke up and said let’s go camping. And by 10:30 that morning we were loaded and ready to go. We took off for a campground we had never been to before without a reservation. We lucked out, there a camping site open. We had a great weekend.
We still laugh about the bike rides we took, the slow motion crash I had on this little skinny bridge (I wasn’t hurt), and the beautiful waters we swam and kayaked in. Now, it is one of our favorite destinations each summer.
So, “What the Heck” adventures can apply to a lot of different parts of our life. It doesn’t have to be at trip or a huge adventure. It can be something as simple as trying new foods, taking a detour on the way home, or trying out a new activity. It is about creating new memories, having fun and stretching.
So, just go for it. Have fun. Be spontaneous. I mean what the heck!
