Sixty-six is the new 21 not in age, but for habits. Previously, 21 was the “magic” number of days for creating a new habit or eliminating an old one. Current research now believes it’s actually 66 continuous days.
That number might feel daunting but you can do it.
So often when we are ready to create a healthier lifestyle, we feel like we need to do a complete overhaul and change everything. Wholesale change is hard and it is easy to give up. Instead, consider making just ONE change for 66 straight days. Keep that new habit then add another for an additional 66 days. If you keep that up, you would have 5 new healthy habits in a year!
So, here’s how it works: Choose something you can commit to for 66 days. Then start. If you miss a day, start over with day 1. Printing out a calendar and Xing out the days will help you keep track and it feels good!
